Organizational Context

IOM, a UN-related organization established in 1951, promotes humane and orderly migration. In Greece, under the 'Helios+' project, IOM collaborates with authorities and partners to integrate third-country nationals into the labor market. This role supports project activities in the South Aegean region, focusing on employability, language courses, and social cohesion.

Job Purpose

This role provides essential interpretation and translation services to support the implementation of the 'Helios+' project in the South Aegean region of Greece. The primary objective is to facilitate the integration of beneficiaries of international and temporary protection into Greek society. By bridging language barriers and offering cultural mediation, the interpreter will assist beneficiaries in accessing vital services, including employability support, language courses, and vocational training. The position contributes to fostering social cohesion and inclusion, ensuring effective communication between IOM staff, beneficiaries, and relevant stakeholders, thereby supporting the project's overall goals of promoting humane and orderly migration.

Responsibilities

The Interpreter will be responsible for establishing initial contact with beneficiaries, building relationships based on respect and trust, and providing interpretation and cultural mediation services. This includes responding to calls on the project's helpline, identifying emerging issues, and reporting them to the Project Assistant. The role involves translating documents and information materials for beneficiaries and assisting in mediation activities objectively and impartially. Additionally, the interpreter will maintain positive relations with beneficiaries, stakeholders, and humanitarian actors, identify barriers to service access, and provide general assistance to other project staff during activities in HELIOS+ Centers and other locations as required.

Work Experience

Previous work experience in a similar interpreter or translation role is required. Candidates should possess a combination of knowledge, education, training, and skills suitable for the position's essential functions. Experience working in a multicultural environment is preferred.

Skills

Fluency in English, Arabic, and French (written and oral) is required. Computer literacy in standard software applications is necessary. A strong work ethic and commitment to humanitarian principles are essential. A valid driver's license with at least five years of driving experience is an advantage.
