Job Purpose
The Field Engineer in Chuuk is crucial for the reconstruction efforts following Typhoon Sinlaku, specifically managing the electrical work for new houses, Weno infrastructure, and public buildings. This role involves ensuring the proper implementation of electrical systems and maintaining vital field equipment such as RO units, generators, and pumps at remote island project sites. The position contributes directly to the recovery and rebuilding of affected communities under the READY project, ensuring that essential infrastructure is restored to a functional and safe standard, thereby supporting the resilience and well-being of the population in Chuuk State.
Responsibilities
The Field Engineer will assist in preparing and reviewing electrical project documentation, including scopes of work, technical specifications, cost estimates, and Bills of Quantities (BOQs). Responsibilities include conducting site inspections to ensure electrical works comply with designs, codes, and safety standards. The role involves providing technical guidance to community groups and contractors, monitoring work progress, and verifying quality across multiple sites. Additionally, the engineer will support the installation, operation, maintenance, and repair of electrical and electromechanical equipment, including generators and water pumps, and assess equipment needs. Capacity building for field personnel on safe equipment operation and maintenance is also a key duty. The role requires preparing technical reports, ensuring compliance with IOM policies, and performing other assigned duties.
Work Experience
Requires demonstrated experience in electrical system installation, inspection, testing, operation, and maintenance for buildings and infrastructure. Experience in preparing technical specifications, drawings, cost estimates, and BOQs is necessary. Construction supervision, QA/QC, and contractor management experience are important. Experience in humanitarian or disaster recovery projects, especially in remote or island environments, is highly desirable.
