Project Associate, Hygiene (WASH)
Organizational Context
The International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Bangladesh seeks a Project Associate, Hygiene (WASH) for its Cox's Bazar Sub Office. Based in Ukhiya, this role operates within the WASH program, focusing on hygiene promotion and community engagement across seven IOM-implemented camps. The position involves extensive field movement and reports to the WASH Program Manager.
Job Purpose
The Project Associate, Hygiene (WASH) is responsible for implementing the hygiene promotion component of IOM's WASH program in Cox's Bazar, Bangladesh. This includes leading community engagement initiatives and ensuring the quality and consistency of hygiene activities across seven camps. The role requires extensive field movement to monitor progress, facilitate community participation, and support the distribution of essential WASH non-food items. By collaborating with partners and local communities, the associate aims to improve hygiene practices and promote ownership of WASH facilities, contributing to the overall health and well-being of the beneficiary population. The position also involves data collection, reporting, and adapting strategies to address emerging challenges.
Responsibilities
Monitor hygiene promotion and community engagement activities, ensuring quality and alignment with IOM guidelines. Support camp monitoring staff in planning and executing hygiene promotion activities, including the distribution of WASH non-food items. Conduct field visits to monitor construction, promote community participation in WASH facility management, and document lessons learned. Facilitate community involvement in program implementation and promote ownership of projects. Support partner staff in delivering effective community awareness programs through training and mentoring on hygiene practices and participatory approaches. Collaborate on capacity building for field staff to strengthen hygiene interventions. Contribute to data collection, processing, and analysis to inform program implementation. Support behavioral research and surveys to develop culturally appropriate IEC materials. Provide guidance to staff and partners on adapting hygiene promotion strategies based on community feedback. Prepare periodic progress reports and recommendations. Facilitate the formation and strengthening of inclusive community WASH committees. Assist in monitoring and managing stock levels of WASH non-food items. Engage in the Hygiene Promotion Technical working group.
Work Experience
Requires a minimum of three years of proven experience in hygiene promotion, community engagement, or behavior change interventions, preferably in humanitarian or refugee settings. Experience working with local communities, volunteers, and committees, and in training/capacity building is essential. Familiarity with WASH interventions and coordination with partners is necessary. Experience with international humanitarian organizations is advantageous.
