Job Purpose
The National Project Officer - Protection role in Nouadhibou, Mauritania, is crucial for coordinating and implementing protection activities for vulnerable migrants. The officer will oversee the identification of vulnerabilities, case management, and specialized support during disembarkation assistance and within reception centers. Responsibilities
The National Project Officer - Protection will be based in Nouadhibou, supervising project activities related to disembarkation assistance, vulnerability identification, and case management for migrants. Key duties include coordinating and implementing protection activities, ensuring compliance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and international standards, and conducting vulnerability screenings. The role involves supervising the project team, managing resources, and providing methodological guidance. Responsibilities also extend to data collection and analysis, maintaining confidentiality, and fostering strong working relationships with government authorities, international organizations, and local stakeholders. The officer will represent IOM in coordination platforms, facilitate information exchange, and support capacity-building initiatives for governmental and non-governmental actors. Ensuring adherence to IOM policies, including PSEA, and liaising with UNDSS for staff security are also critical functions.
Work Experience
Required experience includes working on similar protection projects and direct assistance to migrants, with proven experience in case management. Experience in coordinating emergency responses and assisting rescued at-sea migrants is advantageous. Experience working in Mauritania or other developing countries, particularly in the Sahel or Maghreb regions, is preferred. Demonstrated ability to liaise with governmental authorities and international organizations, knowledge of the Mauritanian migration context, and project management experience with international organizations or local NGOs are valuable. Experience in report writing and strong organizational and planning skills are essential.
