Organizational Context

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) is a UN-related agency established in 1951, dedicated to promoting humane and orderly migration. In Venezuela, following devastating earthquakes, IOM is implementing a multisectoral humanitarian response. The Protection Unit focuses on preventing, mitigating, and responding to protection risks for displaced and earthquake-affected populations, particularly vulnerable groups. This role supports the overall implementation of IOM Venezuela's protection activities.

Job Purpose

The Protection Associate will support the implementation of IOM Venezuela's protection activities, focusing on field-level interventions, community engagement, protection monitoring, referrals, and information management. This role is crucial in assisting the Protection Unit's efforts to address protection risks for populations affected by displacement and the recent earthquakes. The Associate will contribute to community-based protection, protection mainstreaming, awareness campaigns, and ensuring accountability to affected populations. By facilitating safe access to services, supporting community-based initiatives, and providing essential data for monitoring and reporting, the incumbent plays a vital part in delivering life-saving assistance and upholding IOM's commitment to protecting people on the move in a survivor-centered manner.

Responsibilities

The Protection Associate is responsible for supporting beneficiary registration, information collection, and documentation. This includes conducting protection assessments, providing information and orientation on available services, and facilitating referrals to specialized support such as health, legal, and psychosocial services. The role involves maintaining accurate and confidential beneficiary data, coordinating with internal units, service providers, and local authorities, and promptly reporting protection concerns. Additionally, the Associate will support community-based protection activities, organize awareness-raising sessions, disseminate information materials, and contribute to monitoring and reporting through drafting case notes and activity summaries. Field visits and community consultations are also part of the duties, all while ensuring strict adherence to data protection, safeguarding, AAP, and PSEA requirements.

Work Experience

Experience is required in supporting protection activities for affected populations, migrants, internally displaced persons, and vulnerable communities. This includes experience in community outreach, referrals, beneficiary engagement, information dissemination, data collection, and field monitoring. Previous experience with child protection or in child-focused settings is advantageous.

Skills

Strong interpersonal and communication skills in a multi-cultural setting. Good organizational and administrative skills, including the ability to maintain accurate records and handle sensitive information confidentially. Strong work ethics and commitment to humanitarian principles. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and other relevant software.
