Organizational Context

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) is a UN-related agency promoting humane and orderly migration. The Office of Staff Security (OSS) supports IOM programs by managing security risks. This Field Security Associate role, based in Benin City, Nigeria, operates under the Head of Office and directly supports the Field Security Officer in managing security and safety aspects for the field office and its operations.

Job Purpose

The Field Security Associate is responsible for supporting all security and safety-related aspects of the Benin City Field Office's operations and activities. This role assists the direct supervisor, the Field Security Officer, in all facets of security risk management within Benin City. A key function is to support the establishment and maintenance of an appropriate level of security awareness among personnel engaged in the field office's activities. The position contributes to ensuring the safety and security of IOM personnel, premises, assets, and operations by implementing and monitoring security protocols and contributing to risk mitigation strategies.

Responsibilities

Maintain effective working relationships with UNDSS, host government agencies, and local security authorities to gather relevant security information. Assist the Field Security Officer in collecting, updating, and communicating security situation information. Support the development and implementation of field office-specific security plans, including contingency and emergency response plans, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Monitor staff compliance with safety and security protocols and mandatory training. Conduct security surveys of offices and support the management of the Field Office Warden system, ensuring communication equipment operability and timely dissemination of safety information. Assist in reporting security incidents and preparing security reports. Provide support in organizing and conducting security awareness training and orientations for new personnel. Maintain an orderly filing system for security-related documents and a database of security contacts.

Work Experience

Relevant professional experience in the humanitarian, public, private, or corporate sector is desirable. Experience in providing security coordination and administrative support for an international organization is also desirable. Experience with radio communications is a plus, as is successful completion of the UNDSS Field Security Associate (FSA) course.

Skills

Ability to collaborate with senior government security counterparts and relevant stakeholders. Ability to work effectively with colleagues from varied cultures and professional backgrounds. Excellent oral and written communication skills, including active listening and effective response.
