In Greece, IOM operates five Accommodation Centers for Unaccompanied Minors, providing essential services including accommodation, food, legal aid, psychosocial support, and educational programs. This role supports the operation of these centers, specifically within the framework of the "Greece Programme - Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund 2021-2027".
Job Purpose
The Cook will support the planning and preparation of meals for residents within an IOM Accommodation Center for Unaccompanied Minors in Athens, Greece. This role is crucial for ensuring the basic needs of vulnerable children are met through the provision of nutritious and safe meals. The Cook will be responsible for daily meal preparation, managing kitchen supplies, maintaining hygiene standards, and contributing to a supportive living environment. This position operates under the direct supervision of the Shelter Coordinator and contributes to the overall mission of IOM in providing essential services to migrants and displaced persons, specifically focusing on the well-being of unaccompanied minors.
Responsibilities
The Cook is responsible for supervising the cleanliness of the kitchen space and equipment, and preparing meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks) twice daily. This includes recording kitchen supplies, identifying shortages, and submitting reports to the Shelter Coordinator to ensure quality, cost-effectiveness, and transparency. The role requires strict adherence to food safety and personal hygiene policies. The Cook will follow instructions from the Shelter Coordinator regarding facility operations and meal preparations, participate in staff meetings, and communicate with other teams on meal planning needs. Additionally, the Cook will train beneficiaries in meal preparation and perform other assigned duties.
Work Experience
Prior experience in a similar role is required. The candidate must be willing to work morning shifts, including holidays and weekends. Experience working with children or vulnerable populations, and in a multi-cultural environment, is preferred.
