Job Purpose
The Consultant Type B - Migration Health Physician will provide essential medical assistance to migrant beneficiaries accessing IOM's health services in Zarzis, Tunisia. This role involves coordinating medical referrals, following up on treatment progress, and offering support within governmental health facilities when requested. The physician will identify and advocate for migrants' special health needs, liaising with health partners to ensure service provision. A key aspect is contributing to the strengthening and monitoring of quality health services, identifying potential protection concerns for vulnerable groups, and conducting health needs assessments. The role also includes monitoring pre-departure medical checks, coordinating AVRR medical procedures, and conducting health promotion activities within migrant and host communities. The physician will represent IOM in health sector meetings and maintain updated knowledge of migrant health concerns.
Responsibilities
Provide part-time medical assistance and coordinate medical referrals for migrant beneficiaries, ensuring close follow-up on treatment progress. Offer support for medical services in governmental facilities as needed and identify/advocate for special health needs, liaising with relevant health actors. Contribute to strengthening quality health services, monitoring mechanisms, and identifying protection concerns for vulnerable populations. Conduct health needs assessments and maintain monitoring systems, including emergency response. Highlight and ensure the presentation of psychosocial needs to caseworkers. Monitor pre-departure medical checks for fitness to travel and coordinate AVRR medical procedures, including medical escorts. Conduct health promotion activities and liaise with community leaders to stay informed about migrant health needs. Coordinate the proper storage, maintenance, and procurement of medical equipment and supplies. Review services from a gender perspective to improve mainstreaming and sensitive services. Assist the medical team in field-level medical convoys and services. Prepare and submit individual case reports, monthly progress reports, and statistical reports. Represent IOM in health sector meetings as required.
Work Experience
Proven experience in community outreach and dialogue, along with practical monitoring and evaluation experience. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Internet, PowerPoint, Email) is essential. Experience working in emergency situations and with emergency cases is also required.
Skills
In-depth knowledge of the humanitarian context of medical assistance for diverse migrant populations. Fluency in French and Arabic is required; working knowledge of English is desirable.
