Operations Associate ( Mouvement/Transit Center)
Organizational Context
Established in 1951, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) is a UN agency promoting humane and orderly migration. It assists governments and migrants, saves lives, protects people on the move, and facilitates regular migration pathways. This role operates within the Transit Center under the supervision of the Programme Manager and Reintegration Officer.
Job Purpose
The Movement Operations Associate (Field Support) is responsible for undertaking critical movement operations activities within the transit center. This role ensures the smooth and efficient processing of beneficiaries, from their arrival through their stay and departure. Key contributions include assisting with identity verification, orientation, provision of essential items, and coordination of services like meals and transportation. The associate also plays a vital role in managing pre-departure formalities, ensuring beneficiaries are well-informed and prepared for their onward journeys, while maintaining accurate data and reporting any issues promptly to supervisors. This position directly supports IOM's mandate to provide humane and orderly migration services.
Responsibilities
Assist beneficiaries at transit centers with arrival procedures, including identity verification, orientation, and provision of essential items. Manage daily needs during their stay, such as food, non-food items, and issue resolution. Support departure processes, including briefings, luggage assistance, and transition to transportation. Accurately enter and update data in relevant systems, prioritizing the safety and comfort of vulnerable individuals. Coordinate timely and adequate meal services, working with providers to ensure cultural appropriateness and quality. Facilitate pre-departure formalities, including travel loans, luggage management, and information dissemination on prohibited items. Monitor and guide junior staff in field support activities. Provide extended support, including overnight and weekend shifts, ensuring continuous care for individuals. Lead transportation coordination, liaising with service providers, verifying identities, and organizing departures. Ensure proper baggage handling and escort individuals as needed. Maintain updated informational materials within the center. Report any non-compliance with SOPs or Standards of Conduct to supervisors. Uphold RMM Protection Mainstreaming Minimum Standards and IOM Standards of Conduct, including PSEA.
Work Experience
Prior experience in Movement Operations, transportation-related roles, or management is strongly preferred. Experience in programs involving movement operations, particularly resettlement programs, is beneficial. Experience guiding and leading junior staff, and communicating with beneficiaries is also desirable.
