Job Purpose

This Driver position, based in Bangui, Central African Republic, operates under the general supervision of the Head of Resource Management and the direct supervision of the Supply Chain Officer. The role is crucial for supporting IOM's operations by ensuring the safe, efficient, and timely transportation of personnel and goods. The Driver will execute assigned tasks and responsibilities related to vehicle operation and maintenance, contributing directly to the logistical support framework of IOM's mission in the region. This role is essential for facilitating the movement of staff and resources necessary for IOM's programs and humanitarian efforts.

Responsibilities

The Driver is responsible for operating assigned IOM service vehicles, ensuring their daily maintenance and good working condition, including checks on tires, brakes, and engine oil. This includes organizing minor repairs and keeping vehicles clean, adhering to scheduled maintenance intervals. The role involves maintaining records of spare parts and conducting monthly inventory. The Driver must identify the safest and most direct routes, ensure vehicles are used solely for official purposes, and accurately complete daily log sheets and monthly reports on mileage and fuel consumption. Confidentiality and discretion are paramount, along with taking appropriate security measures. Additional duties include welcoming official personnel, facilitating airport formalities, collecting and distributing mail and documents, and assisting with simple administrative tasks as needed.

Work Experience

Experience in driving various types and models of vehicles is required. Proficiency in performing minor vehicle repairs and knowledge of using communication tools like radio, email, and telephone are necessary. Familiarity with local traffic regulations, road networks, and safe driving practices is essential. Basic knowledge of automotive mechanics and the ability to identify common technical issues are also important.
