Job Purpose

The Senior Project Associate (Protection) role in IOM Costa Rica supports the overall management of protection programming. This position is accountable for assisting the Project Manager & Protection Specialist in overseeing protection initiatives. The role involves coordinating project implementation, monitoring activities, and ensuring alignment with IOM policies and donor requirements. It contributes to safeguarding the rights and well-being of individuals on the move, driving solutions to displacement, and facilitating safe migration pathways through effective program support and stakeholder engagement.

Responsibilities

Lead and coordinate project implementation, monitoring activities, and adjusting plans based on field realities. Research, analyze, and present data on migration-related developments. Monitor budget expenditures and ensure financial, administrative, and technical aspects align with IOM policies and donor requirements. Plan and conduct capacity-building workshops. Liaise with local authorities, UN agencies, NGOs, and donors. Prepare correspondence, reports, and presentations. Coordinate the integration of protection principles, including GBV response, across all Country Office projects. Document best practices and lessons learned to inform new project development. Supervise and train reporting staff.

Work Experience

Required experience includes liaising with governmental and international institutions, UN agencies, and NGOs. Experience working on Counter-Trafficking and GBV, community work with vulnerable groups, and training/capacity building is essential. Project management, including budget control, is necessary. Experience with the UN system, working with migrants and other vulnerable groups, and in multicultural settings is advantageous.

Skills

Knowledge of IOM's Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) approach. Expertise in specialized intervention programming for MPX.
