This role supports IOM's operations in the Pacific sub-region, specifically the South Pacific, from its Coordination Office in Fiji. The Assistant reports to the Head of Programme Support Unit and collaborates with regional and Pacific program teams.
Job Purpose
The Media and Communications Assistant supports the implementation of internal and external communication and media activities for IOM's operations across the Pacific sub-region. This involves assisting in the preparation and dissemination of approved communication materials and visibility products. The role contributes to IOM's outreach by helping to draft and format messaging and storytelling content, ensuring IOM's work and project outcomes are effectively communicated. The Assistant will also support media coverage for events and manage information requests, playing a key role in enhancing IOM's visibility and engagement within the region.
Responsibilities
Provide general assistance in media and communication activities, including preparing communication products like success stories, human interest pieces, project briefs, and social media content. Assist in drafting and formatting routine messaging and storytelling materials for outreach. Support the preparation and dissemination of visibility materials across IOM platforms, adhering to branding guidelines. Compile communication inputs from project teams and identify approved content. Aid in organizing media and communications coverage for meetings and workshops. Respond to general information requests and maintain communication records. Perform other related duties as assigned.
Work Experience
Requires experience in media and communication, including content preparation (stories, social media posts, visibility materials). Experience providing administrative or communications support is desirable. Prior work experience with international humanitarian organizations or in a multicultural setting is an advantage.
Skills
Basic writing skills for adapting content to different audiences. Familiarity with social media platforms and basic content creation tools is advantageous. Good organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to work collaboratively in a multicultural environment. Photography, videography, or basic design skills are considered an asset.
