Organizational Context
The International Organization for Migration (IOM) is a UN agency promoting humane and orderly migration. This role is within the IOM Costa Rica office, supporting a project focused on the socioeconomic integration of migrants. The project aims to help migrants access legal status, basic services, and livelihood opportunities within the Great Metropolitan Area (GAM). The Senior Project Associate reports to the Integration Programme Coordinator and the National Project Officer for Integration.
Job Purpose
The Senior Project Associate - Management and Implementation Support will lead and coordinate project activities to ensure timely delivery of targets for the "Regular Migration Status and Socioeconomic Integration for Migrants Received by the Government of Costa Rica" project. This involves managing implementing partners and service providers, developing operational workflows, creating Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and monitoring activities. The role contributes to the successful integration of migrants by facilitating access to legal status, essential services (housing, food, health, psychosocial support), and educational/employment opportunities. The position operates at a community level within the GAM, utilizing IOM's Community-Based approach to foster social connectedness and support migrant integration.
Responsibilities
Lead and coordinate project implementation, monitoring activities, and analyzing challenges to adjust work plans. Research, compile, and analyze data on relevant national and international developments. Monitor budget expenditures and maintain financial records. Coordinate and oversee administrative and technical aspects of implementing partners and service providers according to IOM policies and donor requirements. Plan and conduct capacity-building workshops. Liaise with local authorities, partners, UN agencies, and other stakeholders. Prepare correspondence, reports, and presentations, ensuring timely submission of status reports. Document best practices and lessons learned, contributing to SOPs and concept papers. Supervise and train reporting staff.
Work Experience
Experience liaising with governmental authorities, international institutions, UN agencies, and NGOs. Experience working with vulnerable groups such as migrants, refugees, and victims of trafficking. Prior experience in a multicultural setting with international humanitarian organizations is advantageous. Experience managing IOM administrative/technical processes for partners and monitoring/evaluation of activity implementation is desirable.
