Organizational Context

The International Organization for Migration (IOM), established in 1951, is a UN agency promoting humane and orderly migration. It operates five Accommodation Centers for Unaccompanied Minors (UMC) in Greece, providing essential services including psychosocial support. This role supports the implementation of project activities within the "Greece Programme - Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund 2021-2027".

Job Purpose

The Psychologist will provide crucial psychosocial services to Unaccompanied Migrant Children (UMC) within IOM's Accommodation Centers in Greece. This role involves assessing mental health, conducting individual and group support sessions, and collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to address the complex needs of UMC. The purpose is to contribute to the well-being and development of these vulnerable children, facilitating their adaptation and integration by providing specialized psychological care and support, thereby enhancing the overall effectiveness of the accommodation services and contributing to the project's objectives under the Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund.

Responsibilities

The Psychologist will conduct mental health assessments and psychological evaluations for UMC, organizing and leading individual and group support sessions. They will develop and implement interventions for psychological development, including managing anxiety, anger, and conflict, and teaching coping mechanisms for crises. Collaboration with social workers and the scientific team is key for providing integrated psychosocial support. The role includes referring children for medical care when necessary, mapping available mental health services, and acting as a Case Worker for assigned children. Responsibilities as a Case Worker involve implementing Individual Action Plans, conducting Best Interest Assessments, maintaining child files, and supporting children through entry, daily life, and departure processes. General duties include escorting children, distributing essential items if needed, and reinforcing center rules.

Work Experience

A minimum of one year of relevant professional experience is desirable. Previous experience working with children is considered an asset.

Skills

Excellent communication and negotiation skills, personal commitment, efficiency, and flexibility. Ability to work with minimal supervision and under difficult conditions. Good computer literacy. Willingness to work flexible shifts, including holidays, weekends, and night emergencies. A valid driver's license with at least five years of driving experience is an advantage.
