Organizational Context

IOM, established in 1951, is the leading UN agency for migration, promoting humane and orderly migration globally. The BRMM 2026-2027 project aims to strengthen safe employment and labour migration systems in East and Horn of Africa, focusing on improving migrant worker protection and opportunities. This consultancy contributes to the Labour Mobility and Social Inclusion (LMI) Unit.

Job Purpose

This graphic design consultancy is crucial for the BRMM 2026-2027 project, which seeks to enhance safe employment and labour migration systems in the East and Horn of Africa. The role's purpose is to produce high-quality, user-friendly orientation and Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) materials. These materials will support migrant workers by increasing awareness of labour rights, ethical recruitment, and informed migration choices. The consultancy will ensure these vital tools are visually engaging, easy to understand for diverse literacy levels, standardized, and impactful, ultimately contributing to stronger protection and better outcomes for migrant workers throughout their migration cycle.

Responsibilities

The consultant will develop a comprehensive inception report detailing the project methodology, workplan, and design strategy. Key responsibilities include updating, redesigning, and digitizing print-based IEC materials for Migrant Worker Support Centres (MWSCs) and redesigning the Pre-Employment Orientation (PEO) Handbook. This involves creating infographics and illustrations for various project components. Additionally, the consultant will design, refine, and finalize Pre-Arrival Orientation (PAO) and Pre-Return Orientation (PRO) training materials, including facilitator guides and participant handbooks. Support will be provided for stakeholder validation processes, incorporating feedback into all products. The final deliverables include print and digital versions of all materials, with editable source files, ensuring accessibility, inclusivity, and readiness for various platforms.

Work Experience

A minimum of 5 years of graphic design experience is required, preferably with UN agencies or international NGOs in humanitarian or development contexts. Experience in designing training materials, toolkits, and handbooks is essential. Proficiency in design software and experience developing digital IEC products and adapting print materials to user-friendly digital formats are necessary. Familiarity with migration or protection programming and IOM/UN branding standards is advantageous.
