Project Assistant (Child Protection)
Organizational Context
IOM, established in 1951, is a leading UN agency promoting humane and orderly migration. This role supports the 'Strengthening protection systems for unaccompanied migrant children and vulnerable female applicants and beneficiaries of international protection II' action, funded by the National Development Program 2026-2030. The project focuses on providing targeted care interventions and accommodation services to unaccompanied children and other vulnerable individuals in Greece.
Job Purpose
The Project Assistant (Child Protection) will provide crucial support to the implementation of project activities aimed at strengthening protection systems for unaccompanied migrant children and vulnerable individuals in Greece. Working under the supervision of the National Cluster Coordinator (Unaccompanied Migrant Children), the role contributes to the provision of tailored support to implementing partners and direct intervention through accommodation and care services in Emergency Accommodation Facilities. This position is key to ensuring the effective delivery of protection support and services to vulnerable populations, aligning with IOM's mandate to promote humane migration and protect people on the move.
Responsibilities
Provide general administrative and clerical support to implementing partners for project activities. Retrieve, compile, and summarize data on project activities, ensuring accurate completion of project tools. Consolidate and review narrative reports from implementing partners and draft reports for submission to the Ministry of Migration and Asylum. Coordinate project implementation by liaising with internal units and external parties. Monitor the direct operation of Emergency Accommodation Facilities, ensuring compliance with legal frameworks and guiding field staff. Draft status reports, correspondence, and other documentation. Monitor the performance of implementing partners and their compliance with child protection service requirements, communicating shortfalls. Support the development of standardized operating procedures for child protection activities. Organize meetings, workshops, and training sessions. Respond to general information requests and maintain files and records.
Work Experience
Previous experience in a similar role is preferred. Familiarity with direct assistance to migrants and/or refugees is advantageous. Prior experience working with children is preferred. Experience in a multi-cultural environment is considered an asset.
Skills
Strong organizational, facilitation, communication, writing, and presentation skills. Computer literacy in standard software applications (MS Office, etc.). A valid driver’s license with at least five years of driving experience is an advantage. Personal commitment, efficiency, and flexibility are essential.
