The Project Assistant (Protection) role operates under the direct supervision of the Project Manager within the Coordination Office for the Mediterranean.
Job Purpose
The Project Assistant (Protection) plays a crucial role in supporting IOM's mission to promote humane and orderly migration. This position contributes to the organization's efforts to save lives, protect individuals on the move, and develop solutions for displacement. The incumbent will assist in the implementation and monitoring of protection-related project activities, ensuring effective service delivery and support to vulnerable populations. By performing administrative and programmatic tasks, the role directly supports the achievement of project objectives and IOM's broader mandate in assisting migrants and displaced persons.
Responsibilities
The Project Assistant (Protection) is responsible for assisting in the implementation and monitoring of project activities, including retrieving, compiling, and summarizing data. This role involves monitoring project budgets, ensuring fund availability, and obtaining necessary approvals. The incumbent will provide administrative coordination, liaising with internal and external parties to initiate requests and process administrative actions. Responsibilities include drafting status reports, identifying delivery shortfalls, and preparing correspondence, reports, and documentation. The role also entails organizing meetings, workshops, and training sessions, responding to general inquiries, and maintaining project files and records.
Work Experience
Required experience includes liaising with governmental authorities, national/international institutions, UN agencies, and NGOs. Experience working with migrants, refugees, internally displaced persons, victims of trafficking, and other vulnerable groups is essential. Prior experience in a multicultural setting with international humanitarian organizations or government institutions is advantageous.
Skills
Knowledge of migration-related areas relevant to the Organization. Familiarity with the migration context in Italy and movement-related operations is considered an asset. Proficiency in Italian (oral and written) is required, with English fluency also necessary. Working knowledge of French is an asset.
