The Protection Centre Assistant supports the daily operations of the Centre under the supervision of the Protection Center Manager and in coordination with Protection and Medical teams.
Job Purpose
The Protection Centre Assistant plays a crucial role in ensuring the safe and effective daily functioning of the Centre. This position directly supports beneficiaries by assisting with reception, follow-up, and identification of protection and medical needs. The role involves facilitating access to relevant services, including medical care, and ensuring timely communication while upholding strict confidentiality and the "Do No Harm" principle. The Assistant contributes to the overall well-being of individuals on the move by providing essential support and maintaining a respectful and inclusive environment within the Centre, aligning with IOM's mission to promote orderly migration and support vulnerable populations.
Responsibilities
The Protection Centre Assistant is responsible for maintaining a continuous and professional presence in the Centre, including during nights, weekends, and holidays. Key duties include assisting beneficiaries with daily needs, identifying and reporting medical and protection concerns to the relevant teams, and accompanying individuals requiring medical attention. The role involves supporting the daily organization of life within the Centre, such as meal distribution and hygiene arrangements, and maintaining accurate attendance records. The Assistant must ensure proper handover between shifts, facilitate communication between beneficiaries and medical staff, and activate emergency procedures when necessary. Reporting any incidents involving violence, safeguarding concerns, or medical emergencies according to escalation procedures is critical. Participation in Centre meetings and training sessions is also required.
Work Experience
A minimum of 2 years of professional experience in a similar role, working with vulnerable populations, is required. Experience in reception contexts, social centres, or humanitarian protection settings is advantageous. Knowledge of migrant protection principles, confidentiality, and managing sensitive situations is essential.
