Organizational Context

It collaborates with governments and partners to save lives, protect migrants, resolve displacement, and facilitate legal migration pathways. The Chief Migration Health Officer role sits within the Country Office, reporting to the Chief of Mission and receiving technical guidance from regional health coordinators.
Job Purpose
The Chief Migration Health Officer is responsible for the strategic development, implementation, and management of the Health Assessment and other health programs within the Country Office. This role ensures that health services align with IOM's mandate to support migrants and displaced persons. The officer oversees clinical operations, program quality, and compliance with international health standards and resettlement country requirements. By managing resources, staff, and partnerships, the position contributes to IOM's mission of providing comprehensive health support to individuals on the move, ensuring their well-being throughout their migration journey and facilitating safe and orderly migration processes.
Responsibilities
The Chief Migration Health Officer oversees the comprehensive migration health assessment process, including medical examinations, imaging, laboratory testing, vaccinations, TB management, and pre-departure procedures. Responsibilities include ensuring the quality and safety of HAP premises and equipment, managing human resources, and maintaining efficient, client-centered procedures with a strong emphasis on integrity and data protection. The role involves establishing and maintaining quality improvement systems, incorporating public health interventions, and ensuring compliance with government regulations. Additionally, the officer manages clinical and non-clinical staff, oversees procurement of medical supplies, coordinates mobile medical teams, and manages financial aspects of health programs, including budget preparation and monitoring. Collaboration with other IOM units and advising on health program integration are also key duties.
Work Experience
Requires continuous clinical experience, preferably in a hospital or international clinic setting, and specific experience in Migration Health Assessments. Demonstrated progressive experience in health program management, project development, and report writing is essential. Proven ability to establish partnerships with government and health institutions, knowledge of public health, and understanding of patient safety and infection control are necessary. Experience in migration health emergency response is an asset.
