Organizational Context

The International Organization for Migration (IOM), established in 1951, is a UN agency promoting humane and orderly migration. IOM Ireland, operating since 2001, focuses on various migration management areas, including Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS). This role supports MHPSS initiatives for international protection seekers in transit accommodation centers, aiming to enhance their well-being and resilience.

Job Purpose

This role is crucial for implementing project activities focused on providing essential mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) to international protection applicants in Ireland. The incumbent will contribute to improving the psychosocial well-being and resilience of individuals residing in transit accommodation centers. By delivering individual and group counseling, facilitating psychoeducation, and coordinating referrals, the position directly supports vulnerable populations. The role also involves capacity building for humanitarian actors and community focal points, ensuring a comprehensive approach to MHPSS within the accommodation facilities and broader community.

Responsibilities

Provide individual and group counseling to beneficiaries. Coordinate MHPSS activities with the team, integrating them into community-based initiatives. Conduct rapid MHPSS assessments and inform referral mechanisms. Design and deliver psychoeducation sessions and supervise artistic mediation activities for vulnerable cases. Train humanitarian actors and team members on PFA and basic counseling skills. Identify and refer individuals with severe mental disorders, coordinating with referral teams. Develop and disseminate MHPSS awareness messages and campaigns. Organize support groups and forums. Facilitate MHPSS needs assessments and research. Map existing support provisions and design initiatives to reinforce capacity. Report daily activities and prepare statistics. Identify service gaps and report to project management and local authorities. Develop and maintain an efficient mental health referral system. Ensure confidentiality of migrant and refugee medical information.

Work Experience

A minimum of three years of relevant work experience with the target population or in a clinical setting is required. Experience in counseling and protection activities, emergency response settings, and with international organizations or NGOs is advantageous. Knowledge of PFA, IASC guidelines for MHPSS in emergencies, and migration administrative procedures is beneficial. A valid driver's license with at least five years of driving experience is also an advantage.
