Organizational Context

The International Organization for Migration (IOM), established in 1951, is a UN-related organization focused on promoting humane and orderly migration. The role sits within the IOM Hungary office, reporting to the Head of Office, and will support the ISF/BBA Plusz project, specifically focusing on prevention activities for children and adolescents.

Job Purpose

The Project Specialist - Prevention (Child Safeguarding) will support the planning, coordination, implementation, monitoring, and reporting of activities under the ISF/BBA Plusz project, which aims to prevent human trafficking and assist victims. The role's primary focus is on prevention activities targeting children and adolescents, including awareness-raising, capacity building, and ensuring child safeguarding principles are integrated into all project interventions. This includes working with state-provided childcare institutions and disadvantaged settlements, reviewing methodologies, and contributing to a regional counter-trafficking campaign and stakeholder trainings, ensuring a safe and age-appropriate approach.

Responsibilities

The Project Specialist will act as the technical lead for child safeguarding in all project activities involving minors, ensuring age-appropriateness, trauma-informed approaches, and adherence to protection principles. Responsibilities include reviewing and inputting into prevention methodologies and materials, supporting risk identification and mitigation, and directly contributing to prevention activities through presentations and group sessions. The role involves coordinating with partners and service providers, supporting the development of awareness-raising campaigns from a safeguarding perspective, and contributing to the establishment of Regional Counter-Trafficking Coordination Mechanisms. Additionally, the specialist will design and deliver trainings for various stakeholders, contribute to research and needs assessments, and support project monitoring, evaluation, and reporting by collecting and consolidating data and drafting relevant documentation.

Work Experience

A minimum of two years of relevant professional experience is required in areas such as child protection, child safeguarding, counter-trafficking, or social services. Experience in prevention programming, training, community engagement, and working with children or vulnerable groups is essential. Experience with intergovernmental organizations or in multicultural environments is advantageous.

Skills

Key skills include a strong understanding of child safeguarding, protection principles, and "do no harm" concepts. The ability to communicate effectively and safely with children and diverse stakeholders, facilitate presentations and trainings, and strong organizational and coordination skills are crucial. Good analytical and drafting abilities, interpersonal communication skills, and proficiency in Microsoft Office are also required. Knowledge of human trafficking or migration issues is an advantage.
