Organizational Context

This role is based in Caracas, Venezuela.
Job Purpose
The National Communications Officer will be responsible for defining and implementing IOM Venezuela's internal and external communication strategy. This involves developing and maintaining relationships with the press and media, coordinating public information activities, and contributing to digital engagement strategies. The role aims to increase the visibility of IOM's work locally and regionally by producing timely and engaging content for various platforms, including social media and the country website. The officer will also collaborate with UN agencies and partners to ensure complementary communication efforts and adherence to donor visibility requirements, ultimately supporting IOM's mandate of promoting orderly and humane migration.
Responsibilities
Develop and implement IOM Venezuela's communication strategy, coordinating closely with management. Cultivate and manage relationships with national press and media, organizing press conferences and issuing press releases. Create and disseminate engaging content for social media and the country website, contributing to digital engagement. Collaborate with government and NGO partners on communication initiatives and participate in UN communication working groups. Produce regular press releases and public information materials in English and Spanish, both written and audiovisual, for national and international audiences. Ensure compliance with donor visibility and communication requirements. Coordinate the production of public information materials for various IOM channels, including the website and social media. Perform other assigned duties.
Work Experience
Requires experience in journalism or related fields, with a focus on national and international coverage. Experience with international agencies like the UN is advantageous. Demonstrated experience in gender awareness and sensitivity is essential. Strong interpersonal skills, multimedia capabilities (photography, videography, graphic design), and online/social media communication skills are necessary. Experience working in the region is a plus.
