Job Purpose
The Medical Assistant plays a crucial role in supporting the operations of the Migration Health Assessment Centre (MHAC) in Lagos, Nigeria. This position is vital for ensuring the smooth processing of migrants undergoing health assessments. The incumbent will provide essential information to migrants regarding health assessment programs and other IOM services. The role requires flexibility to perform duties in either the reception and data entry unit or the call centre, contributing to efficient data management, appointment scheduling, and communication with medical staff and beneficiaries. Ultimately, the Medical Assistant's work directly supports IOM's mission to provide services and advice to governments and migrants, facilitating humane and orderly migration.
Responsibilities
The Medical Assistant will provide information to migrants regarding health assessments and IOM services, potentially working in either the reception/data entry unit or the call centre. In the call centre, duties include informing migrants about health assessments via phone/email, registering migrants, scheduling appointments, communicating messages, preparing master lists, maintaining daily statistics, and contributing to customer satisfaction evaluations. In the reception and data entry unit, responsibilities involve explaining the registration process, verifying applicant identity, entering biodata, capturing photos, printing forms, receiving and processing medical documents, preparing and packaging medical files for mobile missions, transmitting completed medical forms, filing correspondence, checking and photocopying payment slips, and performing other assigned duties.
Work Experience
Experience in computer data entry, data elaboration, and analysis, or in a call centre within a busy institution (preferably medical) is required. Knowledge of medical terminology and prior secretarial/archival experience are advantageous. Previous work with NGOs or international organizations is also a plus. High computer literacy in Windows and MS Office is mandatory.
Skills
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work with minimal supervision. Typing speed of at least 60 words per minute. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Publisher, SharePoint). Attentive to detail and accurate in data handling and reporting. Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and manage time effectively.
