Senior Project Associate
Organizational Context
The International Organization for Migration (IOM), established in 1951, is a UN-related agency leading in migration matters. It collaborates with governments and partners to promote humane and orderly migration, protect individuals, and facilitate regular pathways. This role supports IOM's activities in Angola under the Chief of Mission and Head of Programs.
Job Purpose
This role is crucial for supporting the implementation of IOM's diverse activities within Angola. The incumbent will contribute to the organization's mission of promoting humane and orderly migration by assisting in project planning, coordination, and execution. By ensuring effective project support and administrative coordination, the position directly aids in saving lives, protecting people on the move, driving solutions to displacement, and facilitating regular migration pathways. The role is integral to strengthening IOM's support to migrants and governments in Angola, aligning with the organization's commitment to fostering an inclusive and effective workplace.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include assisting in the planning, coordination, implementation, and monitoring of project activities. This involves compiling, summarizing, and analyzing project data, monitoring budget implementation, and proposing adjustments. The role serves as a focal point for administrative coordination, liaising with internal units and external parties. Responsibilities also include drafting status reports, correspondence, and project documentation, as well as organizing meetings and training sessions. The position requires maintaining liaison with local authorities, partners, UN agencies, and other stakeholders, monitoring implementing partners, and providing support for new project development. Guidance and supervision of other staff may also be required.
Work Experience
Required experience includes liaising with governmental authorities, national/international institutions, UN agencies, and NGOs. Experience working with vulnerable groups such as migrants, refugees, internally displaced persons, and victims of trafficking is also necessary. Prior work experience within international humanitarian organizations or governmental/non-governmental institutions in a multicultural setting is considered an advantage.
Skills
Essential skills include excellent communication abilities and the capacity to build effective relationships with stakeholders. Knowledge of project support processes is required. Specific knowledge and experience of the migration context in Angola are also necessary.
