Organizational Context

The Project Assistant operates within IOM Angola, under the overall supervision of the Chief of Mission and direct supervision of the Head of Programs. This role collaborates with relevant units at the country and regional office, focusing on the implementation of public health activities. A key focus is the "Iron Women: Safe Roads, Safe Lives" project, addressing sexual and reproductive health for women truck drivers.

Job Purpose

The Project Assistant's core purpose is to facilitate the effective implementation and monitoring of public health activities in Angola, with a primary focus on the "Iron Women: Safe Roads, Safe Lives" project. This role is crucial for ensuring the successful delivery of sexual and reproductive health services to women truck drivers, thereby contributing to their well-being and safety. The Assistant will provide essential administrative, logistical, and programmatic support, enabling the project to meet its objectives and adhere to established timelines and budgets. By assisting in data compilation, reporting, and coordination with various stakeholders, the position directly supports IOM's broader mission to promote humane and orderly migration, protect vulnerable populations, and drive solutions to displacement through targeted health interventions. This contribution is vital for strengthening community health outcomes and ensuring that IOM's programs effectively address the specific health needs of migrants and mobile populations in the region.

Responsibilities

The Project Assistant will primarily support the comprehensive implementation and diligent monitoring of project activities, ensuring adherence to programmatic goals. This encompasses the critical task of retrieving, compiling, summarizing, and presenting pertinent information and data on specific project topics to inform decision-making. A significant responsibility involves meticulous budget monitoring, including verifying fund availability, securing necessary approvals, and consistently updating all budget-related information to maintain financial oversight. The role demands robust administrative coordination for project implementation, necessitating effective liaison with diverse organizational units and external parties to initiate requests, obtain essential clearances, process administrative actions, and ensure timely follow-up. The Assistant will be instrumental in drafting various forms of documentation, such as detailed status reports that identify and highlight any shortfalls in delivery for supervisor attention, as well as correspondence, briefing notes, graphics, statistical tables, and presentations. Furthermore, the position involves organizing and facilitating meetings, workshops, and training sessions, alongside active participation in field visits across the provinces. Responding to general information requests and inquiries, and establishing and maintaining accurate files and records, are also core duties.

Work Experience

Required experience includes liaising with governmental authorities, national/international institutions, UN agencies, and NGOs. Candidates must have experience working on public health projects and with vulnerable groups such as migrants, refugees, internally displaced persons (IDPs), and victims of trafficking. Prior work with international humanitarian organizations, non-government, or government institutions in a multicultural setting is considered an advantage.

Skills

In-depth knowledge of public health activities in Angola. In-depth knowledge of issues related to sexual and reproductive health. Good knowledge of the work of IOM and the context of Angola.
