Organizational Context
The International Organization for Migration (IOM), established in 1951, is a leading UN agency promoting humane and orderly migration. IOM Bangladesh, active since 1998, supports migration management and humanitarian assistance. The largest operation is in Cox's Bazar, assisting the Rohingya population. This role contributes to the Resettlement Movement Management (RMM) unit in Cox's Bazar.
Job Purpose
This role is established to create a pool of interpreters who will provide accurate and high-quality interpretation and translation services to ensure effective communication and knowledge sharing within IOM Bangladesh's operations in Cox's Bazar. The interpreter will facilitate understanding during interviews, meetings, and discussions, and translate various documents. By ensuring clear and professional communication, the role directly supports IOM's mission to assist people on the move, drive solutions to displacement, and facilitate pathways for regular migration. The services provided are crucial for the effective implementation of humanitarian assistance and migration management initiatives, particularly in the complex environment of Cox's Bazar, supporting the Rohingya population and governmental partners.
Responsibilities
The primary responsibilities include providing accurate and faithful interpretation during interviews, meetings, and discussions, ensuring all communication is clear and professional. The role also involves delivering high-quality translations of reports, communications, and knowledge products. A key duty is to revise deliverables based on feedback provided by IOM. The interpreter will perform consecutive interpretation as required, ensuring that all translations and interpretations utilize standard, accurate, and professional language. Performance will be evaluated based on the accuracy and clarity of interpretation and translation, timely delivery of translated documents, responsiveness to feedback and revisions, and overall professionalism demonstrated in all assignments.
Work Experience
A minimum of two years of practical experience working as an Interpreter is required. This experience should demonstrate the ability to perform interpretation and translation duties effectively.
