Organizational Context

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Ireland, established in 2001, supports governmental partners in managing migration. The organization engages in various programming areas including Assisted Voluntary Return, Resettlement, Family Reunification, Counter-Trafficking, Protection, and Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS). This role supports a project with the Department of Children, Integration, Equality, Disability and Youth to provide MHPSS to international protection applicants.

Job Purpose

This role supports the implementation of community-based mental health and psychosocial support (CB MHPSS) activities for international protection applicants in Ireland. Working under the Senior Community Engagement Associate, the Community Mobilizer will facilitate project activities aimed at improving the psychosocial well-being and resilience of beneficiaries. The purpose is to foster a supportive environment through community engagement, creative and cultural activities, and awareness campaigns, ensuring that MHPSS principles are integrated into community practices and that feedback from beneficiaries is relayed to the project team. The role contributes to strengthening the overall resilience and social cohesion of individuals seeking international protection.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include engaging with affected communities to build trust and encourage participation in project activities. The role involves organizing creative, cultural, and recreational activities for various community groups to promote social interaction and well-being. Identifying and mapping community resources, and supporting them in organizing inclusive activities with MHPSS principles is crucial. The Community Mobilizer will promote and strengthen local cultural traditions to enhance community resilience. Communication with affected populations, collecting feedback, and relaying it to the project team are essential. Providing guidance to community focal points and volunteers to strengthen participation and ownership is also a key duty. The role includes supporting awareness campaigns on MHPSS and social inclusion, assisting in community needs assessments, and preparing brief reports on activities. Flexibility for travel and performing other assigned duties is required.

Work Experience

Requires at least two years of experience in cultural mediation within the framework of migrant assistance. Previous experience with international organizations, NGOs, EU Agencies, or Irish government departments is considered an asset.

Skills

Ability to work with migrants and asylum seekers, strong interpersonal skills (empathy, emotional resilience), intercultural competence and communication, culture-specific knowledge, conflict prevention and mitigation, psychological understanding in communication, knowledge of Irish asylum procedures, excellent written and verbal communication, report writing, and proficiency in Microsoft Office.
