Project Associate (humanitarian Protection)

Organizational Context

IOM, established in 1951, is the leading UN agency for migration, promoting humane and orderly migration globally. In Türkiye, IOM implements humanitarian protection programs addressing risks faced by migrants and refugees, including exploitation and GBV. This Project Associate role supports these efforts in Gaziantep, working under the supervision of the National Protection Officer and Senior Protection Associate.

Job Purpose

The Project Associate (Humanitarian Protection) in Gaziantep, Türkiye, plays a crucial role in supporting IOM's humanitarian protection programming. This involves assisting in the implementation of emergency case management, outreach activities, and strengthening referral pathways for vulnerable populations. The role contributes to ensuring access to appropriate assistance and specialized services for migrants and refugees facing protection risks, including exploitation, abuse, trafficking, and GBV. By coordinating with service providers and supporting case management, the associate helps to enhance the quality and coverage of protection services, aligning with IOM's mandate to protect people on the move and drive solutions to displacement.

Responsibilities

Support the implementation and monitoring of protection case management activities, including assessments, planning, referrals, follow-up, and closure, adhering to SOPs and protection principles. Provide case management and protection support to vulnerable migrants and refugees, including survivors of GBV and victims of trafficking. Maintain accurate and up-to-date case records using approved systems, ensuring data quality and confidentiality. Prepare and track administrative documentation for case management assistance. Act as a focal point for administrative coordination, liaising with internal units and external parties. Draft case summaries and status reports, identifying and suggesting solutions for delivery shortfalls. Prepare correspondence, reports, and other project documentation. Accompany beneficiaries to access services as needed. Participate in meetings and coordinate implementation activities with local authorities, partners, and other stakeholders. Support partner monitoring, participate in case conferences, and contribute to capacity-building activities.

Work Experience

Experience in protection case management (assessment, planning, referrals, closure) is essential, preferably in humanitarian or migration contexts. Experience working with vulnerable migrants/refugees (including GBV survivors, VoTs, UASC) is required. Experience coordinating with authorities and NGOs for referrals, maintaining case records in management systems, and preparing reports is necessary. Previous experience with international organizations or humanitarian agencies is desirable.

Skills

Strong knowledge of protection principles, case management, and referral mechanisms. Understanding of humanitarian principles, data protection, and confidentiality. Effective communication, interpersonal, and counselling skills. Strong organizational, coordination, and time management abilities. Proven ability to build relationships with stakeholders. Analytical and problem-solving skills. Excellent report writing and information management skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience with case management systems is an advantage.
