Senior Project Associate (durable Solutions And Reintegration)
Organizational Context
IOM, established in 1951, is the leading UN agency for migration, promoting humane and orderly migration globally. In Iraq, under the Peace, Recovery and Solutions Division, IOM implements an integrated approach to support internally displaced persons and returnees in achieving durable solutions. The Durable Solutions Unit focuses on policy, coordination, data, and operational activities like infrastructure, livelihoods, and voluntary returns.
Job Purpose
The Senior Project Associate supports the implementation of durable solutions and reintegration activities on the ground in Iraq. This role is crucial for achieving safe, dignified, and sustainable solutions for internally displaced persons and returnees. The associate will monitor project progress, manage budgets, conduct analysis, coordinate with stakeholders, and contribute to capacity building. By documenting lessons learned and supporting staff, the position directly contributes to the effectiveness and development of IOM's durable solutions initiatives, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and donor requirements.
Responsibilities
Lead and coordinate the implementation of durable solutions and reintegration projects, monitoring progress and adapting plans to field realities. Research, analyze, and present data on relevant national and international developments. Monitor budget expenditures and ensure compliance with IOM policies and donor requirements. Plan and conduct capacity-building workshops for internal and external parties. Liaise and coordinate with local authorities, UN agencies, NGOs, and donors. Prepare correspondence, reports, and briefing notes, ensuring timely submission. Identify and document best practices and lessons learned, contributing to SOPs and new project development. Supervise and train reporting staff. Perform other related duties as assigned.
Work Experience
Required experience includes liaising with governmental and international institutions, UN agencies, and NGOs. Experience working with vulnerable groups such as migrants, refugees, and IDPs is essential. Prior experience in international humanitarian organizations or in a multicultural setting is advantageous. Proven experience in research, data collection, analysis, monitoring, and report writing is necessary. Familiarity with Durable Solutions programming and experience in Iraq or post-conflict environments is desirable.
Skills
Substantial knowledge of non-profit work, data collection, and analysis in post-conflict settings. Understanding of Durable Solutions Principles and international frameworks. Technical knowledge of protection concepts and strategies. Proven research and assessment skills with the ability to explain complex information. Excellent analytical, computer proficiency (MS Office, analytics software), writing, and presentation skills. Ability to identify patterns in data and develop strategies. Strong communication skills.
