Organizational Context
The International Organization for Migration (IOM) in The Netherlands has been the primary implementer of Assisted Voluntary Return and Reintegration (AVRR) activities since 1992. This role supports the AVRR program, which is a key component of the Dutch return policy, prioritizing voluntary returns. The position operates under the supervision of the Head of Unit AVRR Project Coordination and Liaison in The Hague.
Job Purpose
This Project Assistant role is crucial for supporting the operational and administrative functions of IOM's Assisted Voluntary Return and Reintegration (AVRR) program in The Netherlands. The incumbent will assist the Senior AVRR Project Assistant in managing the administrative and financial processes essential for the program's successful implementation. This includes providing support across the full spectrum of AVRR activities, from pre-departure assistance and travel facilitation to post-arrival reintegration. The role contributes to IOM's mandate of promoting humane and orderly migration by ensuring efficient program delivery and support to vulnerable migrants, including medical cases, victims of trafficking, and unaccompanied migrant children.
Responsibilities
The Project Assistant will be responsible for assisting in the implementation and monitoring of project activities, including retrieving, compiling, and summarizing project-related data. Key duties involve monitoring budgets, verifying fund availability, and obtaining necessary approvals. The role requires supporting administrative coordination by liaising with internal units and external partners to initiate requests and follow up on actions. Responsibilities also include drafting status reports, correspondence, and other documentation, as well as organizing meetings and maintaining project files. The assistant will respond to general inquiries and perform other related duties as assigned to ensure the smooth operation of the AVRR program.
Work Experience
Experience is required in liaising with governmental authorities, national/international institutions, UN agencies, and NGOs. Prior experience working with migrants, refugees, internally displaced persons, victims of trafficking, and other vulnerable groups is essential. Additional experience with international humanitarian organizations or governmental/non-governmental institutions in a multicultural setting is considered an advantage.
Skills
Excellent administration and coordination skills. Good interpersonal skills for building trust and working relationships. Dedication to supporting beneficiaries with a hands-on mentality. Team-work oriented, with the ability to work independently. Capacity to perform well under pressure and meet deadlines. Excellent computer proficiency, particularly in MS Office. Knowledge of the UN system is advantageous.
