Organizational Context

The International Organization for Migration (IOM), established in 1951, is a leading UN agency promoting humane and orderly migration. It operates globally, saving lives, protecting migrants, and facilitating pathways for regular migration. This role is situated within the IOM Tashkent office, under the supervision of the Chief of Mission and the National Project Officer, contributing to key migration and anti-trafficking projects.

Job Purpose

The Project Associate will provide essential administrative support to the Senior Project Assistant and actively contribute to the implementation of projects focused on preventing irregular migration to Sweden and the EU, and strengthening survivor-centered protection and prevention of trafficking in persons in Uzbekistan. This role involves significant collaboration with Implementing Partners (IPs), developing Community Driven Action Plans, and establishing local alternatives to irregular migration. The position is crucial for the effective delivery of project activities and achieving IOM's mandate in Uzbekistan, ensuring humane and orderly migration processes and protecting vulnerable populations.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include assisting in the implementation and monitoring of project activities, retrieving, compiling, and analyzing project-related data, and monitoring budgets by verifying fund availability and updating financial information. The role serves as a focal point for administrative coordination, liaising with internal units and external parties to process requests and follow up on actions. This includes drafting status reports, identifying and escalating issues, and preparing correspondence, reports, and other documentation. The Project Associate will also participate in meetings with stakeholders, monitor Implementing Partners' compliance, and provide guidance to junior staff, performing other assigned duties as needed.

Work Experience

Required experience includes liaising with governmental authorities, national/international institutions, UN agencies, and NGOs. Experience working with vulnerable groups such as migrants, refugees, internally displaced persons, and victims of trafficking is essential. Prior work experience within international humanitarian organizations or governmental/non-governmental institutions in a multicultural setting is considered an advantage.

Skills

Proficiency in migration-related subject areas, strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and plan, and capacity for independent work and initiative within a team. Excellent interpersonal skills for building trust and relationships. Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines. Knowledge of migration issues and legal frameworks in Uzbekistan, understanding of internal and international migration, and familiarity with UN and donor programming and financial regulations are necessary.
