Job Purpose
This Project Associate (Protection) role is crucial for supporting the implementation of activities at the Dewelle Migration Response Centre (MRC) in Ethiopia. The position operates within IOM's Protection Unit, focusing on assisting vulnerable migrants, including victims of trafficking and children. The role involves providing direct, needs-based assistance and referrals, ensuring services align with MRC standards and IOM's protection principles. The Project Associate will contribute to data collection, analysis, and reporting on migrant profiles and needs, supporting the overall mission to safeguard vulnerable populations on the move. The position also requires administrative coordination, liaison with various stakeholders, and potentially supporting other protection teams and programmatic units.
Responsibilities
Provide tailored direct assistance to vulnerable migrants at the Migration Response Centre (MRC) according to established standards and IOM protection principles. Collect, compile, analyze, and present data on migrant profiles, vulnerabilities, and needs. Manage administrative aspects of project implementation, including budget monitoring and liaising with internal and external parties. Draft status reports, correspondence, and other documentation, highlighting any delivery shortfalls and suggesting remedies. Respond to information requests, maintain records, and organize meetings and workshops. Participate in meetings and assist in coordinating implementation activities with local authorities, partners, UN agencies, and other stakeholders. Monitor implementing partners' work and report non-compliance. Provide guidance to junior staff as needed.
Work Experience
Experience liaising with governmental authorities, international institutions, UN agencies, and NGOs. Proven experience working with vulnerable groups such as migrants, refugees, IDPs, and victims of trafficking. Prior experience in a multicultural setting with international humanitarian organizations or government institutions is advantageous.
Skills
In-depth knowledge of migration-related subjects. Proven experience with case management and shelter management. Knowledge of migrant protection and assistance. Familiarity with project development, administration, and evaluation. Proficiency in MS Windows/MS Office. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Fluency in English and Amharic is required.
