Intern - Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM) Regional Evidence For Migration Analysis And Policy (remap)
Organizational Context
The International Organization for Migration (IOM), a UN agency since 1951, promotes humane and orderly migration. The Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM) Regional Evidence for Migration Analysis and Policy (REMAP) project collects and analyzes data on displacement and human mobility in Central Asian countries and Afghanistan. This role supports the DTM REMAP project based in Berlin, Germany.
Job Purpose
This internship supports the DTM REMAP project, which is crucial for collecting and analyzing data on displacement and human mobility in Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan. The intern's contribution is vital for evidence-based humanitarian and development programming in the region. Working under the supervision of the Global DTM Coordinator and the Senior Programme Manager, the intern will assist in the smooth implementation of ongoing project activities. This role offers an opportunity to gain practical experience in migration data analysis and contribute to IOM's mission of promoting orderly migration.
Responsibilities
Assist in researching and drafting reports, dashboards, and data sheets on human mobility for Afghan, Bangladeshi, Kazakh, Kyrgyz, Pakistani, Tajik, and Uzbek nationals, in both English and Russian. Compile, analyze, and visualize human mobility data for DTM REMAP reporting. Support the development and implementation of systems for data quality assurance and improvement. Analyze new assignments, develop scripts for data validation, and resolve data sourcing issues. Assist in building requirements, metadata, backup procedures, and process documentation for dataset additions. Collaborate with the global DTM Support team to ensure timely content delivery and operational requirement adherence. Develop data queries and perform data pulls from databases as needed. Ensure adherence to IOM Data Protection and IT policies, including data security. Perform other assigned duties.
Work Experience
Experience in compiling, collecting, and analyzing data from various structured and unstructured sources. Experience with Natural Language Processing and Sentiment Analysis is advantageous.
Skills
Good data visualization skills (HTML5, JavaScript, AngularJS, NodeJS, D3 advantageous). Strong SQL developer skills. Proficiency in Python 3 or another multi-purpose programming language. Ability to translate ideas into algorithms and code. Interest in spatio-temporal data and Big Data technologies.
