Job Purpose
The Protection Assistant supports the Relocation team by identifying and addressing the protection-related needs of beneficiaries. This role involves conducting screenings, providing basic information and guidance, and assisting in the implementation of individual protection plans. The Assistant facilitates referrals to specialized services, maintains accurate records of protection concerns, and supports coordination with internal teams and external service providers. The purpose is to ensure that beneficiaries receive appropriate protection assistance and that their specific needs are met throughout the relocation process, adhering to IOM's protection principles and safeguarding standards.
Responsibilities
The Protection Assistant is responsible for identifying and reporting protection needs of beneficiaries, conducting protection screenings for vulnerable individuals, and documenting findings. They provide basic information and guidance to beneficiaries regarding departure preparations and referral pathways. The role involves assisting in the implementation and follow-up of individual protection plans, coordinating with relevant IOM staff and authorities, and facilitating referrals to specialized services (medical, psychosocial, legal). The Assistant records and communicates protection needs while adhering to confidentiality and data protection standards. They also support coordination with internal teams and external service providers, report protection and safeguarding concerns, and organize information activities. Additional duties include drafting case-related notes, assisting with beneficiary movements during relocation, and other assigned tasks.
Work Experience
Experience working with migrants, refugees, or in a multicultural environment is desirable. Previous experience with vulnerable migrants or in semi-independent living units is an advantage. Familiarity with child protection is also considered beneficial.
Skills
Good interpersonal and communication skills in a multicultural setting. Strong organizational and administrative skills, including record-keeping and handling sensitive information confidentially. Commitment to humanitarian principles and strong work ethics. Good computer literacy.
