Job Purpose
The Operations Assistant (Field Support) plays a crucial role in facilitating the safe and orderly movement of individuals. This position is responsible for providing direct assistance at various points, including airports, transit centers, and third-party facilities, ensuring all logistical and administrative aspects of travel are managed efficiently. The role involves verifying documentation, assisting with formalities, escorting individuals, and providing support to those with special needs. By ensuring smooth operations and timely reporting of issues, the Operations Assistant contributes significantly to IOM's mission of protecting people on the move and driving solutions to displacement, thereby upholding the organization's commitment to humane migration.
Responsibilities
The Operations Assistant (Field Support) undertakes field support activities at locations such as airports, transit centers, and sub-offices. Key duties include providing airport services such as custodial care of travel documents, identity verification, assisting with immigration and customs, and escorting travelers. At transit centers and third-party facilities, responsibilities involve assisting individuals upon arrival, during their stay, and upon departure, ensuring their needs for food, accommodation, and information are met. This includes data entry, reporting issues, and providing support to vulnerable individuals. The role also involves coordinating transportation, assisting with baggage, and providing interpretation services. Maintaining confidentiality, reporting non-compliance, and providing feedback to supervisors are also essential duties.
Work Experience
Prior experience in Movement Operations or transportation is a strong advantage. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and internet usage is required.
