Organizational Context
The International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Washington D.C. supports the US Refugee Admissions Program (USRAP). This role, as a TLP Repayment Associate (G5), operates within the Department of Mobility Pathways and Inclusion (MPI), specifically the Resettlement and Movement Management Division (RMM). The position reports to the Senior TLP Associate and is responsible for managing aspects of the Travel Loan Program (TLP) for participants.
Job Purpose
The TLP Repayment Associate's primary purpose is to manage the financial aspects of the Travel Loan Program (TLP) for participants within the USRAP. This involves contacting TLP Participants to address outstanding debts or confirm full loan repayment. The role operates under the direct supervision of the Senior TLP Associate and the overall guidance of the Head of USRAP TLP. The incumbent must adhere to IOM principles, federal, state, and regulatory guidelines, ensuring efficient and compliant administration of the TLP collections program. This contributes to the financial sustainability of the program and supports the successful resettlement of migrants.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include initiating outreach to participants with overdue accounts, ensuring compliance with legal guidelines, and discussing repayment options. The associate will review and accurately enter data into relevant systems, documenting all contact results and notes. Responding to participant inquiries via phone and email is crucial, as is exploring repayment agreements. The role involves performing skip tracing to locate individuals, preparing and distributing repayment letters, and assisting participants with the TLP WebPortal. Maintaining confidentiality, upholding RMM Protection Mainstreaming Minimum Standards, and demonstrating professionalism are essential. The associate must also report any safeguarding concerns or non-compliance issues.
Work Experience
Required experience includes office management, accounting, or bookkeeping. Experience in billing and collections is advantageous. Direct experience with the USRAP Travel Loan Program is considered a significant advantage.
Skills
Required skills include proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel). Strong verbal communication, persuasion, and influence abilities are essential. A high level of motivation, interest in humanitarian dynamics, and resilience to manage work pressure are also required. Familiarity with the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) is a strong advantage.
