Organizational Context

IOM, established in 1951, is the leading UN agency for migration, promoting humane and orderly migration globally. It operates five Accommodation Centers for Unaccompanied Minors (Shelters) in Greece, providing essential services like accommodation, food, hygiene, legal and psychosocial support, and educational programs. This role supports the operation of the Kypseli II Shelter under the "Greece Programme - Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund 2021-2027".

Job Purpose

The Caregiver role is crucial for the daily operations and well-being of Unaccompanied Migrant Children (UMC) residing in IOM's accommodation centers. The purpose is to provide direct assistance, care, and support to these vulnerable individuals, ensuring their basic needs are met and facilitating their access to essential services. This includes guiding them in personal hygiene, maintaining the living environment, managing supplies, and updating records. The role also involves handling crisis situations, coordinating with relevant parties, and ensuring the safety and security of the children on a 24-hour basis. The Caregiver contributes to creating a supportive and structured environment essential for the UMC's well-being and integration.

Responsibilities

Assist in the daily operations of the accommodation center, adhering to instructions from the shelter coordinator and scientific staff. Ensure the implementation of individual daily programs for beneficiaries, collaborating with social workers and escorting them to services as needed. Provide guidance on personal hygiene, cleanliness, and home economy. Monitor and manage the inventory of essential materials, ensuring timely replenishment and proper storage. Oversee the maintenance of facilities and equipment, educating minors on their respectful use. Maintain accurate records of resident and visitor entries and exits. Effectively manage crisis and emergency situations, promptly notifying relevant staff. Coordinate with local authorities on matters affecting the safety of residents and staff. Provide 24-hour security coverage for accommodated children, including nights, weekends, and holidays. Perform other assigned duties as required.

Work Experience

Experience or training in child protection, managing unaccompanied minors, vulnerability management, or assisting asylum seekers/beneficiaries is required. Familiarity with direct assistance to migrants, especially children, is essential. Previous similar role experience, working with diverse populations in a multicultural environment, and willingness to work shifts are preferred. A valid driver's license is an asset.

Understanding of child needs, development stages, and ability to provide a supportive environment. Capacity for immediate response to emergency/crisis situations. Proficient use of IT equipment and standard software applications (MS Office).
