Project Associate (infrastructure)
Organizational Context
The Infrastructure Unit in IOM Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh, is a key operational component of the Rohingya Refugee Response, funded by international donors. The unit focuses on site planning and implementing medium-complexity infrastructure projects, including roads, bridges, health facilities, and site rehabilitation works like drainage and solar street lighting across camps and surrounding areas.
Job Purpose
The Project Associate (Infrastructure) will support the field implementation of the unit's diverse activities, working under the supervision of the Infrastructure Coordinator and Project Officer. This involves assisting with rehabilitation, reconstruction, enhancement, and retrofitting of infrastructure such as solar street lights, lightning arresters, and nano grids. The role also includes supporting the safe disposal of e-waste and the construction of essential facilities like Multi-Purpose Service Centres within camp areas and host communities. Collaboration with internal teams and other IOM units is crucial for successful project execution, particularly for community-based initiatives.
Responsibilities
Assist in developing sketch designs, technical drawings, and 3D views for community projects using CAD and 3D modeling software. Conduct research on materials, construction techniques, and building systems to inform design decisions. Contribute to map development using GIS software. Collaborate with engineers and team members throughout project phases. Support the gathering of information and documentation for project reports and presentations. Maintain organized project documentation and prioritize safety in designs, ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations. Perform other assigned duties as required.
Work Experience
Required experience includes using CAD and 3D modeling software, and construction design. Experience with GIS software and mapping, and working with International Organizations or NGOs is advantageous.
Skills
Proficiency in computer-aided drawing software (CAD), 3D modeling software (e.g., SketchUp), and Geographic Information System (GIS) software.
