This role, based in Cairo, Egypt, operates under the Chief of Mission and Regional Director, focusing on protocol and liaison matters for IOM's Egypt Country Office.
Job Purpose
This role is responsible for coordinating, liaising, and managing all protocol matters for the IOM Offices in Cairo, Egypt. The incumbent will act as the primary point of contact for protocol-related issues, ensuring smooth operations and compliance with host country regulations and international standards. The position requires close collaboration with governmental bodies and UN entities to facilitate the work of IOM staff and the organization's activities in Egypt, upholding the dignity and well-being of migrants.
Responsibilities
The National Protocol & Liaison Officer will perform protocol and logistics liaison with the UN Office in Egypt and the Government of Egypt, ensuring timely processing of requests for IOM office and staff. This includes coordinating to resolve complex protocol matters, staying updated on relevant procedures, and briefing staff on immigration and VAT exemptions. The role involves processing applications for re-entry permits, staff accreditations, and residency documents for international staff. Additionally, the officer will coordinate with procurement and logistics for imports/exports, maintain records of privileges and immunities, track document expiry dates, and manage vehicle registration. The position also requires reviewing correspondence, providing guidance on e-visas and referred visas, and assisting with UN reform matters and common services. Issuing and renewing UNLPs for staff is also a key responsibility.
Work Experience
Required experience includes knowledge of protocol within a governmental or international organization, particularly with the United Nations System. Experience with international diplomatic protocol norms, administrative procedures of international organizations, and liaising with governmental and diplomatic authorities is essential. Demonstrated analytical skills and the ability to apply administrative rules and regulations are also necessary.

Proficiency in English and Arabic (spoken and written). Knowledge of UN System administrative procedures. Strong liaison and coordination skills. Ability to manage protocol matters and diplomatic relations. Analytical and problem-solving abilities. Familiarity with immigration and tax regulations.
