Organizational Context
The International Organization for Migration (IOM), established in 1951, is a leading UN agency promoting humane and orderly migration. The Climate Mobility Innovation Lab (CMIL), hosted by IOM, addresses the nexus between human mobility and climate change, fostering innovation across regions. The Risk Index for Climate Displacement (RICD) is a key tool developed by CMIL to understand climate-induced displacement dynamics and identify hotspots.
Job Purpose
The CMIL Climate Data and Risk Analyst will support the global rollout and continuous improvement of the Risk Index for Climate Displacement (RICD). This role is crucial for the technical development and refinement of the RICD, involving hands-on data sourcing, processing, quality enhancement, and model review. The Analyst will act as a core technical resource for CMIL analytical workstreams, working under the guidance of the Head of CMIL and in coordination with global technical counterparts. The position contributes to enhancing the understanding of climate-induced displacement dynamics and providing actionable insights for policymakers and investors.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include conducting quantitative analysis of climate displacement risk data, reviewing and improving RICD modelling approaches, and supporting the development of micro-level analysis methodologies. The role involves identifying data gaps, sourcing, cleaning, and validating relevant datasets, and assessing data quality. Additionally, the Analyst will provide technical support and training to national partners on data methods, contribute to RICD reports and knowledge products, and serve as analytical support for CMIL teams globally. This includes developing hazard, exposure, and vulnerability simulations and ensuring gender-sensitive data considerations.
Work Experience
Requires proven experience in quantitative and qualitative research on displacement, strong understanding of climate-induced displacement data sources, and demonstrated experience in quantitative risk analysis. Experience with risk indices, handling fragmented datasets in developing contexts, and supporting national counterparts is essential. Prior exposure to RICD or similar tools is advantageous.
Skills
Strong quantitative analytical skills (data cleaning, processing, statistical analysis, modelling); proficiency in R, Python, QGIS, or equivalent; qualitative research skills; ability to assess and improve data interoperability; excellent written and verbal communication; ability to work independently and coordinate with diverse partners; strong organizational skills.
