Job Purpose
This Project Associate role supports the implementation and monitoring of Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) project activities in Maracaibo, Venezuela. The position contributes to IOM's mission of providing humanitarian assistance and practical solutions to migrants and displaced persons. The associate will be instrumental in ensuring project objectives are met by coordinating administrative tasks, monitoring progress, and liaising with various stakeholders. The role aims to enhance the delivery of essential WASH services to vulnerable populations, aligning with IOM's commitment to supporting people on the move and fostering inclusive environments.
Responsibilities
The Project Associate will assist in the implementation and monitoring of project activities, retrieving, compiling, and analyzing project-related data. Responsibilities include monitoring project budgets, acting as a focal point for administrative coordination, and liaising extensively with internal units and external parties. The role involves drafting status reports, identifying shortfalls, and escalating issues to the supervisor with suggested remedial actions. Additionally, the associate will draft correspondence, prepare reports and documentation, respond to information requests, maintain files, and organize meetings and workshops. Participation in meetings with local authorities, UN agencies, NGOs, and donors is expected, along with monitoring implementing partners and reporting non-compliances. Guidance and training for junior staff may also be required.
Work Experience
Required experience includes coordinating with local authorities, civil protection agencies, UN agencies, NGOs, and other humanitarian actors. Experience in implementing WASH activities in emergency and recovery contexts, and working with vulnerable communities (disaster-affected, displaced, migrants) is essential. Experience in needs assessments, WASH infrastructure monitoring, hygiene promotion, and field information management is also necessary. Previous experience with international humanitarian organizations or government agencies in multicultural and emergency settings is considered an asset.
