Job Purpose
The Project Associate (Protection - GBV/CP) will support the implementation of activities within IOM Ethiopia's Protection Non-emergencies portfolio. This includes work related to Migration Response Centres (MRCs), Counter-trafficking, Child Protection, and Community Outreach. The role involves assisting vulnerable migrants, coordinating referrals, conducting needs assessments, and collecting data. The associate will also provide support to other protection teams and ensure coordination with other programmatic units, particularly concerning children and adolescents in vulnerable situations, contributing to IOM's mission of protecting migrants.
Responsibilities
Support the implementation of protection, legal, MHPSS, CP, and GBV activities, ensuring compliance with IOM policies and donor requirements. Assist in providing assistance to vulnerable migrants through partners, including access to shelter, healthcare, and psychosocial support. Coordinate referrals and service delivery with government entities and civil society actors. Identify and report protection trends. Conduct intake interviews, needs assessments, and risk evaluations for migrants in vulnerable situations. Collect and record accurate data using IOM's standard tools and case management system. Support operational aspects like logistics and procurement. Map service providers to update referral pathways. Maintain relationships with community leaders and local authorities. Draft progress reports and facilitate information exchange. Assist in providing training on migrant protection topics. Undertake duty travel to field locations as required.
Work Experience
A minimum of three years of relevant professional experience, preferably in a protection role focusing on Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and/or Child Protection (CP). Experience in coordinating implementing partner agreements, monitoring activities, and providing capacity building is required. Experience liaising with governmental authorities, international institutions, UN agencies, and NGOs is also necessary.
Skills
Good knowledge of migration-related subject areas, including assistance to vulnerable migrants and community outreach. Excellent interpersonal, cross-cultural, and diplomatic skills. Ability to deliver effective capacity building on migrant protection topics. Solid reporting and organizational skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications. Sound knowledge of IOM protection standards and frameworks.
