AVRR Project Assistant (outreach) - Sicilia
Organizational Context
The International Organization for Migration (IOM), a UN-related agency since 1951, facilitates humane and orderly migration. It protects migrants, resolves displacement issues, and supports governments and migrants. This role is based in Sicily, Italy, and operates under the supervision of the Director, Coordination Office for the Mediterranean, Chief of Mission in Italy and Malta, Senior Programme Associate (Migration), and Project Coordinator.
Job Purpose
This role is designed to assist in the implementation of Assisted Voluntary Return and Reintegration (AVRR) counselling and related activities for the project "Training, Assistance and Territorial Support for the Efficiency of Assisted Voluntary Returns." The position contributes to IOM's mission of promoting orderly migration by providing essential support and information to migrants interested in voluntary return. The incumbent will play a key part in ensuring the smooth execution of AVRR processes, from initial counselling and application submission to logistical support for return, thereby facilitating safe and dignified returns for individuals.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include establishing and maintaining contact with local stakeholders such as municipalities, NGOs, and diaspora groups to support AVRR information dissemination and referral mechanisms. The role involves providing direct AVRR information sessions and tailored counselling to Third Country Nationals interested in returning home. This includes assisting migrants in completing applications, submitting them to relevant authorities, and managing case files. The incumbent will also disseminate project information materials, coordinate with police and immigration offices to facilitate return processes, and assist in arranging transportation for beneficiaries, including medical cases. Additionally, the role requires collecting data for reporting, contributing to success stories, and performing other project-related tasks as assigned.
Work Experience
A minimum of two years of experience in the migration sector is required, with a focus on direct assistance to migrant populations, including those in vulnerable situations. Proven experience working with Italian institutions, civil society, and diaspora groups is essential. Experience in a multicultural team environment is also necessary, and prior AVRR counselling experience is considered an asset.
Skills
Excellent organizational and communication skills are essential. The role requires personal commitment, efficiency, and a drive for results. The ability to multitask, prioritize tasks, work independently, and perform under pressure is crucial. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook) is required.
