This role operates under the supervision of the Senior Data Processing and Movement Associate (Coordination) and the Movement Operations Associate (Field Support).
Job Purpose
The Movement Operations Assistant (Field Support) plays a crucial role in facilitating the safe and orderly movement of individuals. This position is integral to IOM's mission of promoting humane migration, saving lives, and providing essential services to people on the move. The assistant directly contributes to the operational efficiency of migration processes, ensuring that individuals, including those with special needs, receive appropriate support throughout their journey. By performing a range of field support activities, the role ensures compliance with IOM standards and contributes to the overall effectiveness of migration management operations, ultimately supporting IOM's broader objectives in assisting governments and migrants.
Responsibilities
The Movement Operations Assistant (Field Support) undertakes various field support activities at locations such as airports, transit centers, and third-party facilities. Key duties include providing custodial care of travel documents, verifying identities, and assisting with airport formalities like check-in, immigration, and customs. The role involves escorting individuals, ensuring special needs are met, and sending notifications. At transit centers, the assistant manages arrivals, provides essential items, offers orientation, resolves issues, and assists with departures. This includes data entry, ensuring the safety and comfort of vulnerable individuals, and reporting any problems. The position also involves coordinating transportation, liaising with service providers, verifying individuals for transport, and providing briefings. Additionally, the assistant may offer support for selection missions, exit permits, and interpretation services, while maintaining confidentiality and adhering to IOM standards and protection mainstreaming principles.
Work Experience
Prior experience in Movement Operations or transportation is strongly preferred. This experience is crucial for effectively managing the logistical and support aspects of migrant movement.
Skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other computer software. Strong interpersonal and communication abilities. Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills. Self-motivated with an objective-driven approach.
