Job Purpose

This role supports IOM's mission by ensuring the safe and efficient transportation of personnel and goods. The Driver is crucial for maintaining operational continuity, facilitating program delivery, and supporting logistical needs within the Benghazi office. By managing vehicle maintenance, adhering to safety protocols, and ensuring timely deliveries, the Driver directly contributes to IOM's ability to provide essential services to migrants and displaced persons. The position requires a focus on reliability, discretion, and adherence to organizational policies, ensuring that all transportation activities align with IOM's objectives and uphold its commitment to humanitarian principles.

Responsibilities

The Driver is responsible for operating assigned IOM vehicles safely and efficiently, ensuring their daily roadworthiness through regular checks of tires, brakes, and engine components. This includes managing minor repairs, maintaining vehicle cleanliness, and adhering to scheduled servicing. The role involves meticulous record-keeping for spare parts inventory and preparing monthly reports on mileage and fuel consumption. The Driver must identify the safest and most direct routes, ensure vehicles are used solely for authorized purposes, and maintain high levels of confidentiality regarding IOM operations. Responsibilities also include providing security awareness, meeting officials at airports, and handling mail and document delivery. Additionally, the Driver may assist with basic clerical tasks and perform other assigned duties.

Work Experience

Required experience includes knowledge of driving rules and regulations, proficiency in driving various vehicle makes and models, and skills in performing minor vehicle repairs. Familiarity with radio, email, and telephone applications is also necessary.
