Job Purpose

This role supports the implementation and monitoring of WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) projects in public markets, focusing on infrastructure improvements and hygiene promotion. The consultant will contribute to enhancing water and sanitation facilities, managing waste, and cleaning drainage channels. The position involves technical assessments, data analysis, and planning interventions. A key aspect is ensuring project activities align with quality standards and community needs. The role aims to improve public health and living conditions through effective WASH interventions, contributing to the overall mission of IOM in addressing migration-related challenges and promoting human rights.

Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the WASH Program Coordinator, the consultant will assist in implementing and monitoring WASH project activities, including rehabilitating water and sanitation infrastructure, promoting hygiene, and managing waste and drainage systems. Responsibilities include participating in technical assessments, analyzing collected data, and assisting in project intervention planning and cost estimation. The consultant will draft progress reports, identify implementation gaps, and propose corrective measures. They will also prepare project-related correspondence, reports, and reference documents. Ensuring construction work meets quality standards before final payment, conducting regular site visits, and verifying WASH infrastructure functionality are crucial. Regular communication with beneficiary communities to explain project objectives and outcomes, using clear and context-appropriate messaging, is required. Collaboration with local leaders and community organizations to foster local ownership of WASH activities is also a key duty. Any other related tasks assigned by the supervisor will be executed.

Work Experience

Experience in designing and implementing WASH infrastructure and activities, including procurement, contract management, and contractor monitoring. Experience in field activity implementation and monitoring. Experience in hygiene promotion. Proficiency in computer tools (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) and strong administrative skills. Experience working with NGOs or UN agencies is an asset. Excellent communication skills and the ability to work independently, showing initiative and proactively anticipating needs and challenges.
