Job Purpose
This Project Assistant (GIS/Data Analyst DTM) role is crucial for supporting IOM's emergency response to the recent earthquake in Venezuela. The primary purpose is to ensure timely and accurate data collection and analysis to understand the disaster's impact, identify humanitarian needs, monitor population movements, and inform evidence-based decision-making. The position will contribute to effective and coordinated emergency response by providing essential GIS and data management support, enabling better planning and resource allocation for affected populations and communities.
Responsibilities
The Project Assistant will be responsible for visualizing and mapping data using GIS tools, ensuring data consistency, and updating base maps. This includes providing GIS support for storing, designing, and mapping data related to the Venezuela earthquake response. The role involves generating GIS support and managing metadata for IOM data collection and the Geo Portal, contributing to the design and maintenance of a spatial data infrastructure for geo-processing and interoperability. Additionally, the assistant will prepare maps and spatial information products for strategic planning, support the construction of the IOM Geo Portal and GIS databases, and perform basic and advanced processing tasks using ArcGIS. Collaboration with local authorities, UN agencies, and other stakeholders in meetings is also a key responsibility, along with performing other assigned duties.
Work Experience
Required experience includes managing or working with DTM data, datasets, and databases. Experience in developing Database Information Systems (SQL or Oracle) for assessment and data collection systems is preferred. Proficiency in complex data quality control operations and experience in geography, cartography, GIS, ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Pro, and graphic design (Adobe Illustrator) are also necessary.
Skills
Mandatory skills include advanced proficiency in ArcGIS tools (Spatial Analyst, Arc Map, ArcGIS Online). Proficiency in web server and web mapping technologies is also required. In-depth knowledge of the latest developments in Geographic Information Systems, including open-source GIS platforms like OpenStreetMap, is essential.
