Organizational Context
The International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Guyana seeks a Senior Operations Associate to supervise beneficiary-facing movement operations. This role is crucial for ensuring the safe, secure, and appropriate movement of individuals, contributing directly to IOM's operational mandate within the country. The position is based in Georgetown.
Job Purpose
The Senior Operations Associate is responsible for the effective supervision of all movement operations activities within the country, with a specific focus on beneficiary-facing aspects. This includes overseeing a team, managing field support activities at various locations (airports, seaports, transit centers), coordinating transportation, and ensuring the timely provision of essential items to beneficiaries. The role ensures that all movements are conducted safely, securely, and with due consideration for the needs of vulnerable individuals, including those with special requirements. The associate also plays a key role in coordinating with external partners and authorities to facilitate pre-departure formalities and provide support for visa application processes when required, contributing to the smooth execution of IOM's migration management programs.
Responsibilities
Supervise staff engaged in beneficiary-facing activities within IOM's movement operations, ensuring adherence to standard operating procedures and program requirements. This includes staff development, training, and performance feedback. Oversee field support operations at designated locations such as airports, seaports, and transit centers, ensuring the safe and appropriate movement of beneficiaries, including providing assistance during extended hours and weekends. Coordinate the transportation of beneficiaries, liaising with service providers to ensure their safety, security, and comfort. Oversee the provision of food and essential items, collaborating with relevant units and service providers to meet quality standards. Manage the coordination of cases involving individuals with special needs or vulnerabilities, ensuring compliance with IOM policies and guidance, particularly for unaccompanied migrant children. Oversee pre-departure formalities, including processing travel documents and exit permits in coordination with external agencies and authorities. Provide support for selection missions and interpretation services as needed. Assist in liaison with other IOM teams and external partners on individual cases at an operational level. Uphold RMM Protection Mainstreaming Minimum Standards and IOM Standards of Conduct, ensuring confidentiality and data integrity.
Work Experience
Experience in programs involving movement operations, particularly resettlement programs. Proficiency in IOM-RMM proprietary tools and systems. Experience handling sensitive information and personal data. Prior experience supervising a team is required. Airport experience is considered a distinct advantage.
