Job Purpose
This Project Assistant role, based in Caracas, Venezuela, supports the implementation and monitoring of IOM's migration-related projects. The position is crucial for ensuring the smooth execution of project activities, which include data compilation, budget monitoring, administrative coordination, and reporting. The Project Assistant contributes to IOM's mandate of promoting orderly and humane migration by providing essential support to project teams. This role is vital for the effective delivery of services and assistance to migrants and displaced persons, aligning with IOM's mission to address migration challenges and support vulnerable populations.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include assisting in the implementation and monitoring of project activities, and retrieving, compiling, summarizing, and presenting project-related data. The role involves monitoring project budgets, verifying fund availability, and obtaining necessary approvals. Administrative coordination of project implementation is also a core duty, requiring liaison with internal units and external parties. The Project Assistant will draft status reports, identify delivery shortfalls, and prepare correspondence, reports, and other documentation. Organizing meetings, workshops, and training sessions, responding to general inquiries, and maintaining project files and records are also expected. The position may involve other relevant duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Work Experience
Experience is required in liaising with governmental authorities, international institutions, UN agencies, and NGOs. Prior experience working with migrants, refugees, internally displaced persons, victims of trafficking, and other vulnerable groups is essential. Experience within international humanitarian organizations or government institutions in a multicultural setting is considered an advantage.
Skills
Proficiency in Spanish (oral and written) is required. Working knowledge of English is desirable. Competencies include teamwork, delivering results, managing and sharing knowledge, accountability, and communication.
