Organizational Context

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Guyana seeks a Senior Protection Casework Associate to support the Assisted Voluntary Return (AVR) program. This role is crucial for delivering essential protection services, including screening, case management, and post-arrival assistance, to migrants with specific needs within the country.

Job Purpose

The Senior Protection Casework Associate is responsible for the effective implementation of the Assisted Voluntary Return (AVR) program activities in Guyana. This involves providing comprehensive protection screening, detailed case management, timely referrals to specialized services, and ensuring appropriate post-arrival assistance for migrants facing protection challenges. The role directly contributes to safeguarding vulnerable individuals and facilitating their safe and dignified return or reintegration, aligning with IOM's mandate to promote humane migration and assist individuals in distress.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include assisting in the planning, coordination, and monitoring of AVR project activities. This involves conducting individual protection screenings for arriving migrants, identifying specific needs such as gender-based violence (GBV), human trafficking, child protection concerns, or health issues, and preparing case plans. The role supports case management by tracking post-arrival services, coordinating referrals to legal, health, and psychosocial support, and ensuring continuity of care. Administrative tasks, data collection, maintaining case notes in IOM systems, and preparing reports are also integral. Additionally, the Associate will assist in organizing meetings and training, monitoring partner compliance, and providing guidance to new casework staff.

Work Experience

Required experience includes protection case management in humanitarian or migration contexts, particularly for vulnerable groups like GBV survivors, trafficking victims, and at-risk children. Experience with referrals and coordination with local actors, NGOs, and government services is essential. Experience with movement operations or international humanitarian organizations is advantageous.
